Create Apps, Young 16 Year Achieves USD 2.7 Billion Investment

A 16-year-old British teenager, Nick D'Aloisio, the investment reached 250 thousand U.S. dollars or the equivalent of USD 2.7 billion.

Investment was acquired from Li Ka-Shing, one of the richest people in the world originating from China. Li Ka-shing invested through Horizons Ventures.

What are the applications that make Nick D'Aloisio trusted to manage a fund of that? These investments are made to an application called Summly.

Summly is basically a web application that summarizes the content. Through a system of "artificial intelligence", Summly able to summarize web content so that prospective visitors know what information will be acquired prior to visiting a specific page.

Currently available for IOS Summly application on Apple App Store. But Nick is planning to develop it to the Android platform as well.

Summly available for several languages. Primarily, Summly optimized for summarizing web pages in English, French, German, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Finnish and Swedish.

In the Beginning

The story began when Nick was looking for information on search engine sites or through a link on Twitter. According to him, information that is raised too much, and users do not always know what to get.

"Maybe Google already have Instant Preview feature, but it's just an image of the page. But what I want is to know what content will I get," said Nick.

Before making Summly, he had made a similar service with an algorithm called TRIMIT. The difference, TRIMIT summarize what the user wanted to say that enough to at-post to Twitter or other social media.

In addition, Nick also makes Facemood applications, which can monitor the user's mood up, and SongStumblr, a music search service geosocial.

As one of the world's richest man, Li Ka Shing investors rather haphazardly. Previously he also invested in Facebook, Spotify and Skype.

To TheNextWeb, Nick told initially he was interested in application development. According to Nick, since the age of eight years he has been using a MacBook and "play around" with iMovia.

"I started programming at age 12, when the App Store appeared in July 2008. I am making the application but not seriously until last year (2010-ed) when I make SongStumblr," he said.

SongStumblr is a service that allows users to search for music based geosocial logic, that means combining geographical location and social relations of friendship alias.

The next application is presented by Nick Facemood. This tool uses sentiment analysis to determine the mood of my friends on Facebook.
